DUSTIN WONG

Auteur de deux excellents albums, DUSTIN WONG (Thrill Jockey - le label de Tortoise, Sea and Cake et bien d'autres) est un guitariste américain qui s'est fait connaître au sein des groupes PONYTAIL et ECSTATIC SUNSHINE. Désormais solo, avec une simple guitare et plein de pédales, Dustin nous transporte dans son monde fait de répétitions, d’échos et de mélancolies. D’une simple mélodie de départ, c’est une symphonie électronico-acoustique qui se dévoile au fil des mesures. Les boucles s’ajoutent, se superposent, s'entremêlent, nous invitant tant au voyage qu'à une certaine transe.

DUSTIN WONG is the co-founder and guitar player of PONYTAIL, as well as of ECSTATIC SUNSHINE. He takes inspiration from something JOHN FAHEY once said: “I was playing guitar but I heard an orchestra in my head. So I was really composing for a full orchestra.” Dustin was deeply moved and inspired by this way of thinking about the creative process. It had a profound effect on his work, inspiring him to use one instrument to create many melodic, emotional and literal layers. Working with a simple assembly of pedals: an octave, distortion, loop, envelope filter, and a couple of delays, he began to take this idea and make it his own, following a twisting path of punk discovery that inspired a growing respect for sonic visionaries like JIMI HENDRIX, BRIAN WILSON and BRIAN ENO.
